I drew this one evening while listening to a detective radio-play. Harriet Vane is a character from the Lord Peter Wimsey detective stories, which were written in the 1920s and ‘30s by Dorothy L Sayers. They’re regularly aired on BBC Radio 4 Extra (an online radio station which keeps programmes available for a week, so you can listen to them when the mood takes you.)
Miss Vane is the writer with whom Lord Peter falls hopelessly in love. Alas, as the lady herself remarks, “If anybody does marry you it will be for the pleasure of hearing you talk piffle.” (If you want to know if she ever changed her mind, you’ll just have to read the books!)
