The strange, eerie lights that flicker and beckon from marshes_x005F were once believed to be Will o'the Wisps, mischievous spirits who tempted wayfarers off into dangerous quagmires. Foxfire is a name more often given to the weird, blue-green light that shines from decaying wood.
I find it likely that among foxes and will o'the wisps there is much borrowing back and forth - a marsh light for Mr. Fox when there's no rotting branches to hand; foxfire for Wilhelmina Wisp when she's run out of gas of an evening. Both, after all, are tricksters, and approve of each other's work.
